Mottram Towers, Stockport
Contract Type: Residential Refurbishment
Client: British Gas( on behalf of Stockport Homes)
Working in partnership with British Gas and Rockwool, Lawtech was appointed as Principal Contractor to deliver a major £6 million CESP-funded scheme for Stockport Homes.
The Scope of Works involved 1050 dwellings across a range of three-storey tenements and high-rise towers at various locations across Stockport, encompassing:
- 40,000m2 Ecorock External Wall Insulation with both dash and silicone render finishes
- replacement internal heating
- installation of external biomass pod installs
- concrete and steelwork repairs to balconies
- 1680 replacement UPVC windows and doors, with draught-proofing
- associated works for roof insulating and relining, using Icopal membrane products
In addition, the client wished to make a visual statement on the skyline of the city by cladding the landmark Mottram Towers with a Rockpanel rain screen façade system in a high-specification Chameleon metallic finish. This was mounted on aluminium rails with a Rockwool Duoslab insulation fixed between. New aluminium-profiled windows were installed to match.
Lawtech’s in-house Design & Quality team worked closely with the window manufacturers to resolve the detailing of the windows for the Stockport project, particularly their integration into a newly-installed Metsec frame in and around the cladding.
The works to high-rise blocks were carried out with the use of scaffold and mast climbers. The buildings remained fully occupied throughout.
The scale and complexity of the Stockport project and Lawtech’s approach to the role of Principal Contractor confirmed our position at the forefront of the EWI and CESP industry sectors. Lawtech supported Stockport Homes in securing a nomination for the scheme at the Project Enterprise awards where it was ‘highly commended’.
